SAU hosts 26th Annual Chili Cook-Off

On November 6, the campus community enjoyed a variety of chilis and desserts at Southern Arkansas University's 26th annual Chili Cook-Off. The event began at 6 p.m. with Freshman Seminar classes, student organizations, residence halls, and fraternities and sororities setting up tables to serve homemade chilis and desserts to passersby.

Cook-off participants were required to make three pounds of chili and provide a complete list of ingredients to qualify for prizes. Groups not making chili could set up information booths, craft booths, fundraisers, or dessert tables. Prizes were awarded for best chili, best dessert, and best table decorations, with $200, $175, and $150 prizes awarded respectively. Winners of the People's Choice award earned $150 for their class or organization.

A hot dog-eating contest followed the event. Participants signed up in advance, submitting a waiver with their entry and acknowledging three simple rules:

1. Contestants must sit during the contest.

2. Hot dogs must be fully consumed for full points (10 hot dogs).

3. Only water is allowed during the contest (provided by the organizers).

Any violation of the rules resulted in a ten-point deduction.
